The Tufts University School of Medicine – Maine Medical Center (TUSM-MMC) Maine Track program welcomed the 40 members of the Class of 2026 during the annual Victor A. McKusick, MD, Lecture on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

Helen W. Boucher, MD, FACP, FIDSA, Dean ad interim at TUSM and an Infectious Disease specialist, was the keynote speaker and spoke about what she called a silent pandemic that is happening right now: Antibiotic Resistant Infection. She presented evidence and cases to students demonstrating the overuse
of antibiotics is contributing to the increase of more infections becoming resistant to antibiotic treatments, with marginalized communities facing a greater impact of this growing problem.

The TUSM-MMC Maine Track program was created to make it easier for Mainers to become doctors closer to home and to encourage students to consider a medical career in Maine. The program offers generous scholarships and gives students the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning in communities throughout the state.
